Player's "Silver Lining"! Rocking a bit harder on their second album!

Player's second single "This Time I'm In It For Love"

Baby Come Back Video!

Are there any Player fans out there? Remember the song "Baby Come Back"?

Player is an awesome group who's first self-titled album came out in the late 70's. This album had their first and only big hit "Baby Come Back" which is now being used in the Swiffer commercials. This album is fantastic! Player should have made it much bigger! They did release another single off of this album called "This Time I'm In It For Love" which had modest success, but never became the huge hit "Baby Come Back" did. And that was all she wrote for any other singles successes. But Player continued to put out a total of 4 great studio albums through the early 80's. After their first album they put out another fantastic one called "Danger Zone"! They put out a third great album called "Room With A View" and their last was "Spies Of Life"! These guys were so talented, especially front man, lead vocalist and guitarist Peter Beckett who wrote most of their songs! I met Peter in Panama City, Florida in the mid 90's when he was touring with the Little River Band! He was a great guy! He was very friendly and personable! He must have talked with me for about 30 minutes or so! It was one of the highlights of my life! He told me that he and bassist Ron Moss were about to release a new Player album called "Lost In Reality"! It came out in 1996 with a remake of "Baby Come Back" on it. It was another great album with a bit of a newer sound from their original sound. I prefer the original sound they had which was kind of a mixture of blue eyed soul or r&b and rock. I would compare them to a mixture of Michael McDonald and The Doobie Brothers. My favorite album was their first! It was totally flawless! And their second album is a close second! Their third album was great too but by then they were trying to modernize their sound to a more 80's sound. Peter Beckett over the years has been continuing to write songs for other artists and scoring music for movies. He wrote a couple of songs for the Mark Walberg movie "Rockstar". He is currently working on a new Player album! I can't wait to buy hear it! So if you love the song "Baby Come Back" you definitely need to listen to and buy their first album! And you can't go wrong with their 2nd and 3rd album too! The 4th album is good too, just maybe not as classic as the first three! Good luck to Peter and the rest of the band with their new album! I hope it does great and re-intruduces them to the public in a big way!

Any Styx Fans out there? What line up is the best?

Styx is a great rock n' roll band that was started in the early 70's in Chicago by the Panozzo brothers, Chuck and John. Also joining up was Dennis De Young and James Young. Then came Tommy Shaw. Then Tommy Shaw left the band in the mid 80's to pursue a solo career. Glen Burtnik took his place for one album. Tommy reunited with all the others in the mid 90's. But sadly, John Panozzo died in the mid 90's shorly after and was replaced by drummer Todd Sucherman. Somewhere along the line Dennis De Young was ousted by the band. Chuck Panozzo anounced he had Aids and Ricky Phillips took his place on bass. Lawrence Gowen was intruduced as Dennis De Young's replacement on keyboards and vocals. Thus the only original member left was James Young and Semi-original member Tommy Shaw. Chuck Panozzo makes special appearances from time to time on bass.

What line up is the best?

The best line up always has to have Dennis De Young! He sang lead vocals on most of their big hits including: Lady, Light Up, Lorelli, Mademoiselle, Suite Madame Blue, The Grand Illusion, Come Sail Away, Castle Walls, I'm Ok, Queen Of Spades, Pieces Of Eight, Why Me, Babe, Borrowed Time, First Time, Rockin' The Paradise, The Best Of Times, Show Me The Way, Love At First Sight, Mr. Roboto, & Don't Let It End!

The present line up without Dennis De Young is a crime!

Those of you who love Dennis De Young, like me, check out his new solo album called "One Hundred Years From Now"! Now this sounds like the old Styx and even better! Lots of great rockin' songs with Dennis's brilliant keyboard work, like in the old days of Styx! And of course some great classic love song ballads Dennis does so well! His vocals are top notch! He's at the top of his game! He almost sounds better than he ever did! I bought a copy at www. amazon.com and can't stop listening to it! It is some of Dennis's best work ever!

Come on Tommy and James! Wise up and reunite with Dennis for the best Styx line up ever!

Long live Styx with the one and only Dennis De Young!
